7 OCTOBER 2008--Flying to Antarctica

It was decided that after much delays with the weather that there was a window of opportunity to get us to Antarctica. So at 2000 HRS (8PM), Greg, Tracey, and I loaded up and headed to the plane to load all of their military equipment. Jennifer would arrive on the following flight to the Ice. We get completely settled into the Antarctic PAX terminal and prepare for our journey to the Deep South. Here is a photo of everyone crammed into the C17 as we head South.

If you can't really see anything in this photo. That's for good reason. We didn't really see anything either. We were making our final approach to McMurdo Station when the military flight engineer got on the intercom to notify us that we would be making a sharp banking action and when we land we will be back in Christchurch, NZ. This would feel like the longest journey...to boomerang this late is just downright frustrating...and long. We were at the airport the night before at 2000 HRS (8PM) and arrived back to the airport at 1030 HRS (10:30AM) the next day. I wasn't a happy camper either...this was the first military flight crew in my military history that would not allow me to have a cup of coffee...coffee denial, on top of a boomerang! Not Good!
