4 OCTOBER 2008

We spent the day travelling to an area called Akaroa, which is 75 kilometers from Christchurch. This picture is from a scenic overlook that gives a vantage of the Akaroa basin. The water that can be seen is all a part of a basin that was formed from a volcano and makes up the Akaroa Harbor. This seems to be the only area in New Zealand where the French attempted to settle and they picked the heart of a volcano...it is breathtaking.

My affinity for flowers was well suited to Akaroa. Here is a white-picket fence with a vine of Wisteria hanging all over it, with Cala Lilies, Rhododendrum, Azaleas, and Lemon Trees in the background. Talk about a sniffer overload. If I could bottle this smell, I would!
